Letter: The kindness, patience and professionalism that was shown to Mark was amazing to watch.
“I would like to express my appreciation for the amazing care given to Mark. Mark is an individual with Down Syndrome and was suffering from digestive issues, which ended in having his gallbladder removed. I was impressed with the care that began in the Emergency Department, which is such a hectic place.
I am amazed with how kind and professional the doctors who worked with Mark were. They were patient in explaining to us his medical conditions and needs. Moreover, while I was so impressed with the doctors at Burnaby Hospital, it was the nursing care that truly was extraordinary!
The kindness, patience and professionalism that was shown to Mark by the nurses was amazing to watch. I was especially impressed with how they all worked as a team. If Mark’s nurse wasn’t available because she was working with another patient, another nurse would step in to help. In addition, they constantly took time to explain everything to me.
While I admire all the nurses, the one I had the most interaction with was “Jasmie.” She was without doubt fabulous. In summary, I am so appreciative of the care given to Mark. I am also pleased to see that someone with a disability was treated with such respect. It is always a concern of ours that if Mark needs community services that he doesn’t get pushed aside because he can’t advocate for himself.”
