When Education Becomes Better Care

When Education Becomes Better Care

February 02, 2026

Exceptional patient care begins with well-supported healthcare professionals. Ongoing education is essential to ensuring that our physicians, nurses, and clinical teams stay current with rapidly evolving medical knowledge, technologies, and best practices.

Medical Education Grants provided by the Foundation play a key role in supporting this commitment. These grants enable staff to pursue professional development opportunities such as attending conferences, specialized training, and hands-on learning experiences that directly enhance care delivery within the hospital.

In 2025, Dr. Wesley Jang, Department Head of Critical Care Medicine, received a Medical Education Grant that supported ICU team members in attending the 17th World Congress of Intensive & Critical Care in Vancouver. As the largest conference of its kind globally, the event brought together experts from around the world to share emerging research, innovative treatments, and evolving standards of care.

Exposure to international expertise allows our teams to benchmark their practices, explore new approaches, and bring fresh insights back to the bedside. These experiences strengthen clinical confidence, foster collaboration, and translate into tangible improvements in patient care.

By investing in education, donors help ensure Burnaby Hospital remains a place of learning, leadership, and excellence. Medical Education Grants support staff growth, strengthen recruitment and retention, and ultimately ensure patients benefit from care informed by the latest advances in medicine.
