Two young Burnaby philanthropists make $25k matching gift in support of Hospital Redevelopment
“The redevelopment of Burnaby Hospital is the single most important issue in Burnaby today – nothing else comes close. No other initiative will positively impact as many people in our community as a new Burnaby Hospital. It is a great honour and privilege for me and my wife, Alaiza to be involved in the Proud History, Bright Future campaign. We are proud to donate a $25,000 matching gift to help make a new Burnaby Hospital a reality,” says 30 year old John McCarthy.
John and Alaiza have generously offered to match increases made by the Foundation’s incredible monthly donor community for a full year, thus doubling their impact.
All five members of McCarthy’s immediate family – mom, dad, brother and sister, and John himself – were born at Burnaby Hospital.
The couple was inspired by the philanthropic example their family has set. John’s father, Bill McCarthy, chairs Burnaby Hospital Foundation’s Fundraising Cabinet and has been a pillar of support for Burnaby Hospital for nearly three decades.
“At Burnaby hospital we have world class medical staff and physicians delivering exceptional care from a hospital facility that is completely insufficient to the current needs of our community. Everyone who has received care at Burnaby Hospital has been aware of the urgent need for a new hospital facility. This redevelopment campaign gives our community the chance to earn the hospital our city needs now, and for the future,” McCarthy explains.
“Do not underestimate the impact you can make – young people especially! Every gift no matter how big or small gets us closer to our goal, and every new donor brings our community closer together.”
