The Emperor’s Ball Recognizes Community’s Top Philanthropic Leaders
Over $250,000 raised by Burnaby Hospital Foundation in support of $5 million campaign
The Burnaby and East Vancouver communities opened their hearts and their wallets on Friday at The Emperor’s Ball, raising over $250,000 in support of the Burnaby Hospital Foundation. Embarking on their largest campaign to date, the Foundation is raising $5 million to support the development of a new Mental Health and Substance Use Wellness Zone, as well as community care space to support and consolidate outpatient services.
The gala, emceed by Burnaby boy and Love it or List it Vancouver host, Todd Talbot, brought together roughly 325 guests, who also had the opportunity to celebrate this past year’s Philanthropy Award recipients, including Dr. Shelley Ross, Royal Bank of Canada, Mr. Walter Novak (posthumously), and The Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Woodward’s Foundation.
Presented by The Burnaby Firefighters Charitable Society, the evening at the Delta Burnaby Hotel & Conference Centre was a night of wining, dining, and most of all, fundraising.
“I’m blown away by the generosity of our guests and the support of our donors and sponsors,” noted Burnaby Hospital Foundation CEO, Kristy James. “The money raised tonight will have a direct effect on mental health services and community programming in Burnaby, East Vancouver and beyond. Our goal is to keep people out of the hospital as much as possible, but also ensure they always receive the highest standard of care when they must be there.”
Attendees were enthusiastic in their support, with over $100,000 raised in the Fund a Cause alone. The Live Auction was equally impressive, and a Wall of Wine with 138 bottles of hand-selected wines contributed to the evening’s incredible total of $250,000.
