RBC Foundation and Friends Contribute to support Mental Health Services at Burnaby Hospital

May 2, 2022

May 2-8 is Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Week, and we cannot think of a more fitting time to celebrate the efforts of donors who have gone above and beyond to improve access to mental health services for the people of Burnaby and East Vancouver.

We are grateful to our special friends at RBC Foundation who just donated $100,000 to ensure youth with mental health concerns get the right care, at the right time. RBC Foundation also generously contributed $50,000 last spring to support Burnaby Hospital’s Mental Health and Substance Use Program, after a devastating fire forced closure of our inpatient unit and community space.

We are also thankful for all of the support we received to help create a Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) zone in Burnaby Hospital’s emergency department, to better serve those who turn to the hospital in times of a mental health crisis. Two years later, this dedicated zone has provided specialized care to thousands of patients in a purpose-built, calm and therapeutic space, complete with a private entrance.

Our heartfelt thanks again to our caring partners who helped make this possible, including a lead gift from the Burnaby Firefighters Charitable Association, a multi-year commitment from Grand Villa Casino, through Gateway Casinos & Entertainment’s corporate giving program, GatewayGIVES, as well as thoughtful donations from the Auxiliary to Burnaby Hospital, the Keith and Betty Beedie Foundation, Face the World Foundation and the Hrescak Family.

Thank you to everyone who is helping to ensure a brighter future for Burnaby Hospital’s mental health and substance use patients.
