Burnaby Hospital Foundation announces 2017 Philanthropy Awards

Burnaby Hospital Foundation has announced the recipients of its 2017 Philanthropy Awards. The four awards recognize individuals and corporate citizens whose outstanding commitment to health care excellence through philanthropy and community leadership inspires others to engage with the Foundation, and builds awareness about patient care needs at Burnaby Hospital. 

The Burnaby Hospital Foundation Physician of the Year Award is granted to a Burnaby Hospital physician who has demonstrated community leadership and hospital support through philanthropy and personal influence. This year Burnaby’s own Dr. Shelley Ross receives this honour.

The Burnaby Hospital Foundation Corporate Citizenship Award recognizes a local business whose organizational values and dedication to community wellness embodies careful leadership and a strong sense of civic pride. Our long-time supporter, Royal Bank of Canada has been named at the recipient, and we remain grateful to RBC and wish to recognize the corporate values that make such philanthropy possible.

The Keith and Betty Beedie Leadership in Philanthropy Award recognizes an individual or family demonstrating exceptional leadership in supporting Burnaby Hospital through philanthropy.The Beedie family are long-time supporters of Burnaby Hospital Foundation. Mr. and Mrs. Beedie’s philanthropy reflects their genuine desire to help others and give back to a community that has been their home for well over 60 years. This year’s recipient of this award is Mr. Walter Novak. The Board of Trustees of Burnaby Hospital Foundation and the entire team thank son, Brent Novak, and his wife, Delores, who are receiving this posthumous award on behalf of Brent’s father, whom we lost in July of this year.

The Dr. Kenneth C. Hill Spirit of Philanthropy Award honours individuals or organizations whose generosity has inspired others to become involved in supporting Burnaby Hospital. The award carries the name the late Dr. Hill whose generosity, kindness and compassion were legendary and now enshrined in perpetuity though this prestigious award. This year, the recipient of that reward is The Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Woodward’s Foundation, a renowned and inspired foundation dedicated to advancing health for all British Columbians.
