Burnaby Firefighters echo call for social distancing; contribute $25,000 to Burnaby Hospital’s Emergency Response Fund
Burnaby Firefighters and the Burnaby Firefighters Charitable Society (BFCS) are lending their voices to the urgent call imploring people to stay at home and to follow their lead in practising social distancing measures.
Frankly, if they can manage it, so can anyone.
In a job that is typically very hands-on, Burnaby firefighters are taking extra precautions to protect the public and themselves during emergency calls.
“We want the public to know that when our first responders attend a 911 call, we are currently using our self-contained apparatus which will protect the sick or injured individual we’re helping,” said BFCS President, Jeff Clark. “We don’t want people to have to worry about COVID-19, in addition to their emergency.”
To further assist the community, the Society has also contributed $25,000 to Burnaby Hospital Foundation’s recently set up COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund. The fund has been created to help address Burnaby Hospital’s growing list of urgently needed items to support front-line staff. Donations are currently being accepted towards ICU beds, Cardiac monitors, C-MACs, and other needs as they are requested by health care professionals.
“We’re seeing the effect this pandemic is having in our community and all communities – and the strain it is putting on the health care system. We wanted to make this contribution now because we know how important it is for hospitals to have the emergency equipment they need to stay ahead of this crisis,” said Clark.
