Burnaby Hospital Foundation is delighted to celebrate the achievements of Kristy James, President and CEO, who was honoured with the BCIT Distinguished Alumni Award on November 14, 2024. This prestigious recognition highlights Kristy’s exceptional leadership and the impact she has had on both the charitable sector and her community.
Kristy’s commitment to community betterment is exemplified in her transformative leadership at Burnaby Hospital Foundation. Under her guidance, the Foundation has seen remarkable growth, with annual revenue soaring from $2.5 million to $13 million in just seven years. She led the Proud History, Bright Future redevelopment campaign, surpassing its ambitious $30 million goal in record time – half the anticipated duration. This success, along with her focus on community engagement, strategic board development, and financial health, has solidified her position as a leader in healthcare philanthropy.
Beyond her work at the Foundation, Kristy’s influence extends to numerous community and professional organizations. She serves on multiple boards, including the Pacific Assistance Dog Society, St. Michael’s Long-Term Care and Hospice, and Family Services of the North Shore. Kristy’s volunteerism and mentorship have positively influenced many in the fundraising sector, where she has also taught courses and served on committees for the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP).
Kristy’s achievements are not only the result of her dedication to her work but also to her unwavering belief in the power of education. With over 25 years of fundraising experience, Kristy holds a Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) designation and an Associate Certificate in Non-Profit Management from BCIT. Her BCIT education was a cornerstone in shaping her career, equipping her with the skills and knowledge that have enabled her to drive meaningful change. As she shared in her acceptance speech, Kristy’s time at BCIT was a catalyst in both her professional and personal journey, and she is proud to give back by mentoring others, including her daughter, who is now following in her footsteps at BCIT.
Kristy’s work has touched countless lives, and her recognition with the BCIT Distinguished Alumni Award serves as a testimony not only to her personal achievements but to the broader positive impact she has had on the Burnaby community and the healthcare sector.
As she continues to lead with compassion and purpose, Kristy is not only shaping the future of philanthropy but also inspiring a new generation of leaders to follow in her footsteps. We are proud to celebrate her well-deserved honour and look forward to the continued positive impact she will make for years to come. Congratulations, Kristy.
