Patient Education Centre
Cost: $112,000
If you or a loved one has ever been diagnosed with a serious illness, you know just how devastating this news can be. Often, learning more about the illness or disease is very helpful. Many patients have told hospital staff that when they learn more about their illness and about other people with the same disease, they feel less isolated and more empowered knowing that there are others facing similar health challenges.
This year, the Foundation is raising $112,000 to transform a room in the hospital into a volunteer-operated Patient Education Centre, which will be open to patients and their families, the public and Burnaby Hospital staff. This Centre will be an educational resource for our community, providing a “one-stop shop” for health information, including a library of brochures, resource materials, computer workstations with internet access, and health-related videos and DVD’s.
Whether one is looking for current information about disease state management, medications and treatment options, information on medical tests and procedures, or contact details for community resources and support groups, our new Patient Education Centre will be there to assist them.
