An Endobronchoscopy Video System will greatly impact patient safety, and allow for continuous improvements in Burnaby Hospital’s ICU. This particular equipment enables Burnaby Hospital to provides bedside bronchoscopies and minimally invasive precautionary tracheotomy procedures. One of the most critical elements of these procedures is to ensure that our physicians and Respiratory Therapists are equipped with the most up-to-date bronchoscopy equipment. During these procedures, the video system provides the light and becomes the surgeon’s visual pathway, allowing him or her to see inside the patient’s body. With the ability to perform a bedside diagnostic or therapeutic bronchoscopy, patients in our ICU who are often too ill to be transported to the Respiratory suite or the Operating Room experience less trauma, faster diagnosis and safer procedures that allow patients to return to normal activities faster.
