Burnaby Hospital is supporting the communities of Burnaby and East Vancouver with an eight bed Level 2A Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).  Our NICU is staffed with highly trained medical personnel who specialize in caring for high-risk infants. The first breath a baby takes is the biggest and most important of his or her life. But what happens when breathing doesn’t come naturally? About one in ten newborns struggle to start breathing, and more than a million die each year because they couldn’t catch their breath. The Resuscitaire® allows preemies or any newborn struggling with the transition to breathing after birth to receive the necessary respiratory support. Without this equipment and medical support, vulnerable infants suffer irreparable damage or do not survive.
