Last Friday, Burnaby Hospital Foundation and several supporters in the community celebrated the 25th anniversary of The Slice golf tournament. And what a celebration it was!
As the title states, The Slice raised $150,000 and will help purchase urgently-needed Ambulatory Care equipment at Burnaby Hospital; equipment like a Pediatric Gastroscope, a Fibreoptic Light Source, and an Electrosurgical Unit just to name a few.
I could give you a play-by-play of all the fun and festivities, but I am a true believe that a picture can say a thousand words. And in this case, much more!
I have never seen a more jovial group of golfers ready to “slice it up” for a cause. Maybe it was the sunshine. Maybe it was the awesome Callaway sunglasses they received as a thank you gift. Or the free beer courtesy of Cariboo Brewing. That is, after they jump-started their day with specialty coffees from Aramark Refreshment Services.
It could have been the delicious barbeque lunch from Riverway Golf Course’s new Clubhouse that did them in, but I think the foodie adventure and VIP treatment on-the-course also played a big part. Not to mention that all of this helps a cause that is close to their hearts – Burnaby Hospital.
Highlights included:
- Wine tasting hosted by Yellow Tail
- Chair massage
- Sangria and barbeque skewers from Browns Socialhouse
- Pizza by Me-N-Eds
- Personal trainer challenge by Steve Nash Fitness Clubs
- Pulled beef paninis, warm crepes and signature mocktails from EBO Restaurant
- A Hole in One challenge for a $10,000 shopping spree at Brentwood Town Centre
- Bruschetta, cider and chips and salsa by Hilton Vancouver Metrotown
When the clouds rolled in by the end of the afternoon, it was time to draw the crowds in for dinner at Riverway Golf Course’s new Clubhouse, and enjoy the excitement of winning prizes from The Slice Auction and Live Auction run by expert Barry Scott with Maynards Fine Art & Antiques. And to end the night, we couldn’t think of a better way than to send everyone off with a goodie bag that featured wine courtesy of Painted Turtle.
Now, some may wonder how a charitable organization like us could throw such an awesome bash. Well, simply put, we couldn’t have done it without our generous sponsors, the individuals who support us by coming out to the party, and the volunteers like The Slice Committee who put in their sweat and creative ideas to build and run the fantastic event.
So, here’s a toast to everyone who contributed to helping us raise a whopping $150,000 to purchase critical hospital equipment. Thank you and we can’t wait to do it again next year!
